Nano is nano and I've hit that spot where consistency is key. I haven't fell back so far that it's not possible but I'm really going to push this week to get some headway.

LJ is down right now. BOO!!!

I'm watching Elfen Lied now just to get a feel for the show again because it's been years since I've watched it and I'm going to need all the time I can get for the icon challenge.

Tonight Glee! & Justified! Though I may catch Justified later b/c I'm fighting a summer cold and I may go to sleep before then.

I am addicted to Robot Unicorn Attack.

seriously, I'm singing the song as I play

I've finally made some headway on the mixes. One has all the music (including lyrics, and order) picked out and I made a mock cover to send in as the rough draft. Eleven songs total, and two artists being repeated but the songs really fit so I don't feel bad about that at all. The 'cover' isn't too much but if it does end up being the cover I won't feel like I did it halfway. I'm just hoping to have some time to play with the cover some more.

To reward myself, I read a bit of fic just for my leisure: A Golden Silence Rings Clear by [personal profile] doctor_jasley It has space, zombies, and amnesia which are just a few of my favorite things. It's gen and a fun read. Oh and it was written for me b/c I am that lucky sometimes.

I've fallen behind on my reading but I'm going to catch up this week. It's not like I haven't been reading but I haven't been writing them up which is something I've wanted to get used to. Oh, and I bought a new journal for book reading.

My mom wants a pancake breakfast at 8 in the morning so I have to get to bed a bit earlier tonight, even though I spent most of my time hiding from the daylight thanks to a migraine.

Because I'm not one to back down from a challenge, my friend and I are going for a walk on Monday at 7am /o\ Whatever, if she can do it, I can too. I may not have seen the day before 8am recently, but I can get back into the swing of it for one day

The premise of The Looking Glass Wars is nice but the writing is holding it back.

I'm still enforcing the fic hiatus. I have to. I know that if I start, I won't finish until deadlines loom and I at least want to make one three weeks post on my journal.

Today was productive though. I made two dinners, ran an errand, cleaned the kitchen, and did Fannish Friday all before midnight (and that includes reading all the fic and checking the links) and I finally collected all the links onto one page. I'll talk more about that later. So yay productivity.

Now, I'm beat.

Wow, did Three Weeks go by Fast. Monday that's it. Okay, so I may get a little spammy this weekend but I definitely want to make a post on my first DW Year, and all the books I read; maybe mixing can wait. IDK. *throws up hands*

Oh good news: I am very close to wrapping up those mixes.

&Good night. Hope everyone has a spectacular weekend.

I've got two mixes due for au_bigbang so all my fic reading plans are put on hold. Plus lgbtfest is posting and I need to go through more of those, but all fic reading plans are put on hold until I send in those mixes that are due Tuesday (omg, why do I wait so long for these kind of things!). The good news is that I did think of a post for three weeks; it's going to be about mixing. See, very original :)

(and I'm behind on recs, and I'm tempted just to post the ones I read for apocabigbang and call it done)

(and I'm pissed because it's taking super long for my mom's bday gift to come in the mail, and yes I know that 5-10 business days means what it says but usually my stuff ships faster than that.)

& this post isn't really just about me whining about things of my own design, so links:

This post on Why Music Really Matters basically sums up my feelings on meaning in music (and indirectly leads to why I'm not prone to pissing on someone else about their preferences when it comes to music or things like books, movies, etc; but that's another post)

For a “collective people across the music industry, including artists, retailers, songwriters, labels and managers,” it really shouldn’t take a writer—like me—to remind you, that it’s not about you anymore. It’s about each and every one of us. It’s about the moment when a song intersected with our lives and we realized for one moment—that one very special moment—that someone else, out there, feels the way we do, that we are not alone, nor wicked in our ways, and that we may not all bleed the same blood, but at very least, we do bleed.

Think about a moment in your life, where time stopped and the music you were listening to came to mean something real. Suddenly, you could see the beauty beneath the scars and the lyrics became the bloodstained poetry on your heart. That’s music. That’s why it matters—to people.

&this post pretty much sums up my thoughts on the revamped SYTYCD

Day 07 - A song that reminds you of a certain event

Tonight will be a twofer since I skipped yesterday, also because I'm having a hard time narrowing down my choices.

A Change is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke
When I was seven or eight, it was a New Year's Eve and just before midnight my father put in the cassette tape and my parents danced together to this exact song. It was like the entire world narrowed down to them and this song with this line 'It's been too hard living, but I'm afraid to die' circling in my head. This was the first time I really paid attention to lyrics and let them be more to me than what they had ever been. Sam Cooke, ladies and gents.

Bye Bye Bye by *NSYNC
If you are a certain age, you probably remember when *NSYNC were everywhere and this dance was all over. My friends and I had epic conversations about BSB vs *NSYNC and I watched TRL for video premieres and recorded the MTV Awards on my VCR and then shared it with my classmates in our black market at our tiny private school. All those events are not what I most tie to this song, it's this: sitting in a cramped van at night, riding from Orlando, and listening to the first cassette tape I'd ever bought for myself for the entire trip. It was a little taste of pop liberty.

I'm so feeling tempted to do a Remember When Mix. This is getting ridiculous

Day 05 - A song that reminds you of someone
I Don't Know - Lisa Hannigan

This one was the most difficult so far, mostly because memorable music is so wrapped on what I'm feeling and experiencing that I don't have many songs that remind of people involved in my life. It's tangential at best.

But here it is:
There was a boy that made me think that every love song written was about our future; I had never felt so deeply about someone before and the entire experience had me more petrified than anything. His apartment was on the way to my apartment (I swear!) and whenever I'd drive by I'd think about stopping by or something else ridiculous.

//this song fits in the sense that while I did know a lot about that guy, I craved for more//

I figured I may as well get something that visually represented how Empires refusal to come near me again makes me feel.

you see a headline that says MCR Fails To Agree A Buyer For Any Borders U.K. Stores and you go damn, I didn't know they were into books! I knew The Black Parade was big but that much money and then you click the article and realize that My Chemical Romance don't own letters M, C, or R.
wishfulclicking: man in black and white pulling back a curtain to show moving sky (charlotte sometimes)
Today I was talking to some kids (8 and 11) and the 8 year old asked me if I was still in high school. I told him no and then he asked me if I was a parent. On the outside I gave a chuckle and said no, in my head the litany of HELL NO WTF!!! was on a cycle. Me? A Parent. Not anytime soon.

After I tell the 11 year old my real age (22), she wrinkles her nose at my ancient years and then says I am lucky. I ask her why and bite my tongue to stop myself from being one of those older people who swear that time flies by so fast and all your days leave while you're busy blinking. Because I don't want to be that person.

But she never did tell me why I was lucky.

On other notes: I decided to start that meme that floated around two weeks ago because I am the place where memes come to die and be resurrected. Also this song feels like a good fit for that brief story and it is one of my current favorites.

day 01 | a song
Help I'm Alive - Metric I downloaded this album a while ago but never got around to listening to it and then I was going through a playlist of songs I hadn't heard yet and fell upon this one. Love the simplicity of the lyrics and Emily Haines' delivery.

day 02 | a picture
day 03 | a book/ebook/fanfic
day 04 | a site
day 05 | a youtube clip
day 06 | a quote
day 07 | whatever tickles your fancy

LJ says it has been close to a week since I've posted. There is no solid reason for that beyond SGA sucking me in (Guys, I was glued to my laptop for days! I read a 96,000 word fic and kept on going! I must be stopped!) Except, don't stop me because I love it.

Some weirdness has been going on. To understand this, you have to know that I'm a private person and, while I adore my parents, I try to keep a distance. So, my father coming up to me and grinning because 'I have his taste in music' and asking to borrow my Elton John CD makes me pause; but you know what makes me freak out?

Mom: Your dad loved that music in your car.
Me: huh?
Mom: Flyboy or whatever noise that was.
Me: Fall Out Boy. (insert crazy grin because every time I think of them my face is happy) pause. What do you mean noise? ( I will not disown mother because of FOB. I will not.)
Mom: Whatever it's called. How did you find them?
Me: (ducks head) A movie.... (if only you knew, MUAHAHAHA)

Yeah so my dad likes Fall Out Boy. He's turning 50 this year. If he asks me to burn him that too, my brain may freeze over in shock. At least I lived :)

How have you guys been?

There will be some memes soon, awkwardlurker tagged me and you guys know how I'm weak for memes.
