Social media this year
Dec. 18th, 2012 09:05 pmJust upgraded to a Paid account for a month, mostly to take advantage of the December 10% promotion (I'm five points away from a free month); but the dominant reason is that I do appreciate what this site does and its ethos. If only I could regularly post on it. (ALSO THE ICONS)
I don't have it in me to find the link to a meta post from some years ago, but the premise was that the future of fandom was not on one dominant site but multiple sites, this was written before tumblr rose and the main question was lj and dw. Back then I called it oddly prescient and, here, at the end of 2012 that seems to be what has happened to LJ based fandom* (I specify this b/c it has always driven me to distraction when discussing fandom to pretend that LJ is only where it's at). A lot of the major active fandoms now seem to grow on tumblr, but people still archive fics at places like LJ or AO3 or on tumblr itself, and even with OOQ gaining steam on tumblr, a lj comm was made that gained hundreds of followers. What is all this?
Well this year tumblr has pulled most of my attention but I have not read that much fic; I actually haven't gotten too involved with a fandom to the degree I had with bandom or Glee. I watch shows that have fandoms, and at times I do provide commentary and discussion but it's all very light.
I haven't actually done anything longform on tumblr--mostly because I lose interest halfway and want to view my dash again. My ideal would be to post stuff as tv goes on on DW, bt I never quite get around to it.

do not try and predict trends
Dec. 28th, 2011 11:32 pmToday I upgraded my account for a month mostly for the icons, though the extra 3 points were nice but ineffective. With my new icon space I deleted some (there are still more I need to get rid of) and added some, changed my default--love it though that was the opposite expression I wore with Misfits' latest finale.
Right now I'm trying to resist starting this WIP update because the author is not done posting and I'm already tired and it's better if I wait and just speed through it in the morning instead of F5ing a ridiculous number of times.
My new layout has all CAPS in certain parts, is there a way to changed that? Also to add some space between the journal title and recent entries or reading page within the header?

two does not a spam make
Jun. 10th, 2010 03:08 pmThis whole adding a border to the cut stuff after I press the triangle thing is definitely one of my favorite things today. I know that was ridic vague but I added some CSS to have a dotted line border around what was hidden by a cut and I love it.
Wow. I am not familiar with comic books (the only ones I'm really into are Fables, DMZ, and Ex Machina) but this list of the fates of the LGBT characters felt like a punch to the gut. These lists really do make some things apparent.
Ugh, I ate too much rice today and now I have a headache.

three weeks links
Apr. 30th, 2010 08:33 pmMore recent posts from three weeks that has caught my interest
Love for Young Dracula seriously made me want to watch the show and check out the fandom.
miss_haitch posted some great music
This recipe for No Roll Sugar Cookies is definitely something I'm trying later.
feminist50 is seeking recs (non-fiction, fiction, poems, etc) featuring Women of Color.
noracharles discusses the benefits of cloth pads.

maybe plans but recollections
Apr. 27th, 2010 12:18 amWhen I first saw this article I thought 'oh, twenty-four hours without media, no problem' and then I realized that included my ipod and then it became a lot more challenging. Even so, I think I could do it and I'm probably going to give it a shot; my productivity would maybe increase if all I could access was a blank piece of paper and books.
Three Weeks for DW is off to a fantastic start. Refreshing my sub-list actually produces stuff, and I had to skip 60 just to keep up at one point. So far I've been mostly commenting to stuff and I added my name to a meme; but I do plan to post.
Oh, I finished The Book Thief today and I cried during the last twenty pages it felt like, yeah. I'll post fully about it later.

Keeping up to date with book posts, especially any books that would fit withfeminist50. There's going to be one mega one because while I have been reading, I have not been posting about them.
At least one fic forchromatic_fanfic
Maybe something forstayintheroom also, though as weird as I am about posting fanfic, I'm even weirder about original stuff.
I'm thinking about joining an icon challenge but maybe I'll just stick to making small batches. You know, ease into something before I flake on another challenge.

three weeks ideas
Apr. 18th, 2010 12:17 amThree Weeks for Dreamwidth is gearing up and these ideas have caught my interest:
Mini Meta Fest focusing on women/and or femslash, there's a good number of prompts on this post that I hope to see filled. I may post short thoughts on some. This one isn't actually for the three weeks thing
feminist50 is hosting some stuff. My goal is to pick up some recs for books to read and maybe contribute some if the ones I have read aren't already listed. Also, during that time period, I'm planning to read books and make mini reviews. That sounds feasible.
I just posted some prompts for
stayintheroom though I'm not sure if I'm going to post any of the stuff I actually finish.

participatory plans
Mar. 22nd, 2010 11:20 pmThere's this Three Weeks for Dreamwidth thing that's going around and I'm intrigued. I've thought about this and my plan is to really focus on posting to comms I'm in and being more active. Commenting more, that kind of thing. I have a ton of things I've been meaning to post (like mixes and rec lists).
ok, ok, this may tingle
Jul. 28th, 2009 12:04 amSo I get off the internet/LJ for almost a day and then I come back to sweet things! Things like new Panic! and pictures that should be on Cute&Cuter. Just wow, I really need to work on that. I have not listened to the new song yet, but I did download it, so later. I'm hearing good things though and that makes me feel better. I'm always so nervous for Panic! and other bands I'm attached to and I just want them to do well, and that feeling only increases the more put upon I feel they are. IDK, I have a thing for the underdog.
( consistent in my changing ways )
Also: Dreamwidth rolled out some fantastic new features--I can have homepage! Everything looks so much better now \o/
