wishfulclicking: man in black and white pulling back a curtain to show moving sky (erasers)
While I wait for the new Gaga/Beyonce video to load (vevo!!!) and fervently wish to find some fic set in the universe they've created, I thought I'd pose a question:

Have any of you guys went back to a story that you, at one time, thought only needed some filling out and a little bit of editing and went back to realize it needed to be completely rewritten?

This may be part of a function of taking forever to actually finish something. I'm always starting up things and then not returning to them for sometimes months (and one extreme example a year); earlier this week I returned to an idea that I thought I had mostly finished except for some missing scenes and some editing but then I read it again and went BUH and I couldn't drown out the voice in my head crying for a rewrite.

Does anyone else think To Wong Foo could be made again right now? I can't even think of three popular male stars of different ethnicities who would appear in a movie as drag queens (without it being tragic-dramatic?) and I can't think of it being promoted nationwide either? Do you think movies and media have gone backwards or kind of stalled?

I don't know. I just remember seeing the preview for To Wong Foo with my parents when I was 8 years old. Now it's playing on BET at 1 pm in the afternoon.

Question: has any of you had your ipod to freeze? if so, what happened afterwards? Did your ipod eventually stop working completely?

The mini hiatus of yesterday is broken (kind of). I'm still not reading any bandom fic, though that's more of a personal ill than anything else. I do feel like I'm warming back up to it again: I barely made it through an spn fic I was reading; that only means that I'm ready to come back home ;0 Though Kings is now added to my interests, as you can see by the influx of icons.

Apparently I missed April Fools' Shenanigans, and I'm sad for that because I love a joke, but I needed to see if I could be offline for a day (I can't unless forced) and conficker had me a little scared. This laptop is new, and I can't afford to be robbed by The Geek Squad or anything else; and if I lost this laptop to a virus, I would probably cry.

Last night I watched Let The Right One In and I have to say that the hype is deserved. This is how I love to see vampires...and it was great to see kids portrayed with a different lens. It's like part horror story and part love story. I definitely want to own that movie.

Bandom on twitter makes me grin. hard.

I did watch FOB/Brendon performance and I generally liked it. They sounded okay but I just think I don't really like watching live performances unless I'm there---when I watch live performances on tv, I feel kind of bad for them unless they are spectacular. Brendon has mad energy though, it's like he has to perform or he's too bored.

Is anyone moving to dreamwidth? It seems intriguing to me, but I'm too broke to buy an account, but I am going to poke around though.

just a bit of crazy to make things lighter )
Even if I have to hijack my cousins kid to walk around and freak people out with it. It makes me think of Alien but with less blood. I could just imagine it now: my kid looks at a photo with me and him/her in one of these and points and says, 'see mom, this is why I go to therapy'.

1) Comment to this and I will give you 3 people.
2) Post this meme with your answers.
3) Provide pictures and the names of 3 people.
4) Label which you would marry, shag, and throw off a cliff.

[livejournal.com profile] misermob gave me Pete, Ryan, and Jon Walker. This was not a hard decision.

Hard decisions, guys. Hard decisions. )

Okay that is all :)

So Stargate Universe....what's the deal?

wishfulclicking: man in black and white pulling back a curtain to show moving sky (shocked)

Still feel kind of sick, but whatever.

Lately, I've been constantly playing The (After) Life of the Party; it's definitely a song that grew on me, it was so not one of my favorites from IOH.

I'm still kind of bored which is funny because I do have things (both IRL and Online) that I need to do. Procrastination is my friend.

Fandom: I love it, I miss it, sometimes I loathe it.* For a while now (it feels like forever but I know that's the hyper speed of internet time relativity talking) I've been out of sync with fic. At first it was of my own will to get started with Big Bang and other online things, then my laptop decided it liked when I flipped out, so it died. I've had moments of reading because I can not resist foxxcub's stuff, it is true: I am weak. So I think tonight I'm going to catch up on the thing that pulled me into this wonderful fandom in the beginning--fic. Anything you guys have read lately that was just wonderful? Please nothing insanely long (30K), well link me to it, but if you have anything kind of able-to-be-read-in-one-go without feeling like I spent an enormous amount of time online, that'd be wonderful.

Though I have fallen off of reading fic, my real life endeavors with fiction have increased. Currently A Handbook of American Prayer by Lucius Shepard has my attention and I like it. It feels engaging while somewhat distant simultaneously. The whole concept of the novel is that this guy, Wardlin Stuart, is sent to jail for murder and while in jail he 'discovers' the power of prayer--not to an established God, but more like the power of focusing one's energy on a desired outcome. This leads to him becoming a sort of modern shaman from the prison and a celebrity when he publishes a book. Sounds interesting right?

Because I am a creature of habit, I started thinking how would this go as fic? My mind first went to an MCR place with Gerard being the one sent to jail and then finding a renewed purpose; but then I started thinking how the main character reminds me a little of Bob too---and I never say no to Bob in fic.

But really, I wouldn't care which band was featured, I would read that fic anyways.

Another book I would love see someone do is A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby. Hmmm....

In response to this post, ask me about the first time I did something. It can be anything--the first time I ate Italian food, the first time someone I knew died, the first time I left the country, my first OTP, the first time someone of the opposite sex saw me naked. I'll answer in the thread. Then (if you like) put it on your journal and I'll ask you questions.

saw this from [livejournal.com profile] trippypeas and you all know that I'm a sucker for memes.

I still have a cold, but it seems to be getting better--that is a good thing. This weekend is shaping up to be a little dull, but I do have some things to do, just not entirely fun things. Recently, the desire to edit previous fics has been strong, but obviously, my reaction should be WTF!Big Bang! and not 'Oh let me edit these old fics'; and I can't even really trust the impulse because it may be my fever addled brain making me want to change stuff around when it doesn't even matter anymore.

Flist, question:  What Internet Browsers do you guys use? Right now, I use Firefox for mostly everything; but I'm typing this up on Googe Chrome just to give it a shot. For me, Chrome is really fast, except it doesn't have all the add-ons so FireFox has me still.

Do any of you guys know an easy way to use delicious on Chrome? I already did the bookmarklets thing.

There's a meme floating around that I can't participate in but next year, I will be ready for it.

Now that I have more internet time (still grinning at the laptop) I've come to some conclusions:

*I need to modify my delicious system. When I first started saving fic on delicious I developed the guh!!! tag to indicate a fic I found extremely awesome. It used to be that the guh!!! tag was a rarity but now I only save guh!!! level fics, with the occasional plain rec. Either I've become lax (which is really not the case) or I've just stopped reading a ton of fic. Now I kind of want to make another level to designate those fics that I especially adore.

* You know, I was/am reading this fic and I was all hype about it because it started off so well. It included one of my new favorite things and had a secret favorite pairing of mine, but then it just veered into the bad lands. Maybe because I've read enough fic now to know what I like and I read so much really good stuff (bandom and SGA spoiled me rotten!) that my tolerance is all low. Maybe I've just gotten old and curmudgeonly. Maybe I'm just cranky and need a hug.

I can't link to this fic since I don't like to make people feel bad, but I was sort of bummed because I was so ready to make a rec post and then I just couldn't  do it with good conscience.

I really want to end this post on a positive note so know that I've been listening to FBR songs performed by Chipmunks for the past week and I love it! (expect some music stuff soon as I get this laptop set up)

I should accept the fact that I make up lyrics for FOB songs; and I can't really understand some of the words. I thought I'd share some of my mishaps:

lyrics? what lyrics? )

I'm b-b-b-back!!!!

Okay now that's out of my system, I had to present a feel of symmetry, now I can update.

The family trip was not as bad as I expected, so maybe that's a bonus to having low expectations so it's pretty hard to disappoint yourself ;) The food was not that great; but I did manage to avoid falling into a diabetic coma so yay! to self-restraint. I had some deep conversation with my FFM (favorite family member) and I always enjoy seeing him. We did come to a difference on gay rights/marriage and I just had to tell him: I can never vote against civil rights for anyone. It's just not in me. Though we are not exactly in line, I feel like it was a good conversation to have. Because this journal is not political one, there ends my social commentary.

* I tried to read fic on my IPOD through the notes function but it cut them off. I'm looking into it later today because I should be able to do it. But does anyone know anything about that? Is there a size limit? Should I only use Notebook? I could really use this considering I'm on limited internet time.

* Avatar marathon last night! I love that show so much :) I can hardly think of another show (not just limited to cartoons) that nailed multiple characters and their development. I developed such love for Zuko in this! Aangsgiving is a perfect holiday!

*Not really feeling like reading long fic at the moment, I feel more like watching more Avatar and reading a book. Plus listening to more music.

Hope everything is great for you guys :)

I know, it's another post today; maybe I'm just trying to compensate for my impending absence and recent lack of posting.

*What happened to [livejournal.com profile] bandom_recs  ? I went on there because I haven't seen a post from them for a while, and I thought it was just me; but it says here that the last post was in September /o\.  I really loved that comm and I don't want to see it die? Is there some sort of unannounced hiatus? Speaking of bandom_recs, I think there should be a holiday themed rec list since it is the time of year for holidays.

* I was just on [livejournal.com profile] patd  and apparently there is a copy of the NITA from the Live in Chicago DVD from panic and Ryan comes in *loud and clear* during the background vocals. Comments are being sort of mean. I haven't watched the clip because I want to see the entire DVD, maybe I'll watch it on mute so I can catch a glimpse of Spencer's porn-drumming face. (Yes I wold do it just for that) Plus there is a closeup of Jon's feet! I want this DVD so bad :)

*Speaking of Live performances, I got a copy of Paramore's live CD and now I'm listening to it and loving it. I am/was quite ambivalent towards the band (still not a fan of Misery Business), but hearing them live, I have to say I am so impressed. Haley is such a strong performer and the band sounds fantastic. I remember Paramore had one of the best performances during MTV's boring awards show this year.

* Expect a music post soon.

*I've been watching reruns of The West Wing, and I have to say I adore that show! Josh! Sam! Mandy! Toby! I love all the characters. The dialogue! Also, I've been reading some West Wing fic, sometimes I get sucked into fandoms for a day or two, and I read some of my favorite fics. (Yes, I am diehard into Josh/Sam)

While reading through The West Wing fic, I came to a conclusion: some shows translate really well to fandom/ficcage and others don't. For me, some shows, The West Wing, Friday Night Lights, HIMYM, Pushing Daisies, have such distinctive styles that it's hard to catch that in fic. When I do find it in fic, it's amazing; but it's a hard thing to find. Especially with TWW, there is an exact style of dialogue for each character, so when I go for fic and the dialogue is just not there (and it is hard because Sorkin is amazing with that sometimes! Sports Night... \o/). Or maybe some shows seem so complete already that fic seems very extra sometimes. IDK, I feel like this should be a separate post when I'm not slightly sleep deprived.

This meme was hijacked from [profile] brandixcyanide

Pick a fandom I know and I will tell you who I would:

1. bake cupcakes for:
2. trust with the keys to my car:
3. put thumbtacks on their chair:
4. have a crush on:
5. pack up and leave if they moved next door:
6. vote for President Prime Minister:
7. pick as my partner in a buddy movie:
8. pair up:
9. vote off the island and into the volcano:
10. wheedle into fixing my MP3 player:

So the fandoms this applies to-- Bandom (patd, fob, mcr, hushies, cab, phantom planet, metro station, etc.), Gundam Wing, Sailor Moon, Digimon, SGA, Eureka, Mad Men, Heroes, CSI: LV, CSI: Miami, X-men: movieverse)

So my adoration of Charlotte Sometimes may or may not be known----
I've wanted her in fic for a very long time (I especially wanted her crossed PATD) and now lo, here it is :)

raindrops on roses (sometimes there are) -- PG-13 by [personal profile] electrumqueen
Charlotte Sometimes/Ryan Ross
She captured Ryan perfectly in this! YAY!! Charlotte Sometimes!!

(I've wanted this for so very long. Now, if I can just connive my way into some Charlotte Sometimes/Spencer Smith PORN/epically long piece detailing their gradual relationship wrought with sexual tension and desire! and then my life will be temporarily complete :)

Does anyone have any other links to fic featuring Charlotte Sometimes? I don't care about the pairing. Is there a comm somewhere?

 What? No Meme?

This is not a meme--hold in your shock-- I just finished doing all the memes I had been tagged to do and now back to the regularly scheduled posts.
