wishfulclicking: dianna and naya (glee: dianna naya)
It's been almost two months since I posted. Wow. Let's get back into it with a meme I've seen around:

|Fandom as relationships:|

ramblings on different fandoms )

Apparently this meme is longer but I'm now tired. Any questions or ones I left off that you want me to answer, leave them in the comments.

wishfulclicking: man in black and white pulling back a curtain to show moving sky (brendon kiss kiss)
So I've been flaky with this meme so it's best that I just go ahead and answer the rest of the questions.

12. What do you consider the five most "telling" interests from the list on your profile? Why? // What do you consider the 10 most "telling" interests from the list on your profile? Why? || 13. Do you have any unique interests on your user profile? What are they? How'd they get there?

I haven't edited my changes since I created this journal May 2009; so my interests are a snapshot of where I was then, or more like how I was when I was really into having my interests represent what I'm into. But looking at what I currently have:

Five Most Unique (I Guess)

being ridiculous on the internet is still something I'm highly into. One of my primary objectives is fun fun and I consider a day worthwhile whenever something flashes across my screen that makes me grin. Sometimes it's a game, a cool fic, a vid, an artwork, a surprising post.

cheap books I will never have enough books. I will always hunt through stacks in thrift stores, used book stores, and library sales. Some of my favorite purchases: The Things They Carried (looked for that one for years), What I Loved, The Book Thief (soft and hard cover), Catch-22, others.

fics of random fandoms On random nights I find myself reading fics for fandoms I have no knowledge of, it doesn't have to be AUs either (though I have yet to find a mafia AU I won't at least check out). I started reading SPN way before I had even seen an episode, same with Harry Potter, Gossip Girl, Yuletide forever. Usually I scan some rec lists and if someone sells it hard enough then I'll give it a go.

finding all petes Fascination. Begrudgingly charmed. Frustration. These are things I often feel for Petes in all my fandoms. RPF and FPF. (Bandom, Mad Men, Fringe)

screwing up html always and forever

Telling: I used to be really into bandom. Now, not as much.

11. What features do you think Dreamwidth should have that it doesn't currently?

I crave post scheduling with a madness. Just think: if I had post scheduling then I could maintain glee_fans so much better and I could contribute more to other comms for tv shows I follow. And anyone else remember that new update page that had the mock up and everything, I want that too. Some people seem to want a like button and that's cool with me too.

Humorous discussion about the Best Kiss category on the MTV Movie Awards that flirts with the awards show history and nature on one of my favorite blogs, Low Resolution

Pics of Ryan Gosling just existing that made me swoon in my own room
wishfulclicking: astrid from fringe (fringe: astrid)
I have fallen behind, this is something I do with all memes that require daily posting.

8. What community do you wish was more active?

Probably the comms for Fringe, Justified, Community if I had to choose. Also endings, and the literary quotes one but I feel weird for talking about this because I could make those communities more active by posting more, so, in this case my wishing hasn't extended itself to any effort on my part yet.

9. Are there two people on your reading list that you think should meet?

No. Most of the people who I think would get along well already seem to interact with each other.

10. Tell me about your default icon.

When I lost my paid time, fifteen icons were left available and out of the fifteen Astrid was my favorite out of the bunch. My icon is Astrid from Fringe, she's one of my favorite characters and I just love the expression captured in the icon.
wishfulclicking: man in black and white pulling back a curtain to show moving sky (glee: cheerios)
6. What do you wish people who read your journal knew about you?

Most important: I read your entries even if I don't comment. Usually I just don't know what to say. Another thing is that if I forget to reply to a comment that's just me going through a bad moment or being absentminded.

7. What is your favorite community on Dreamwidth?

stayintheroom for a variety of good writing prompts, but I really love most of the comms I follow.

Continuing my habit of following any news about World War Z that pops up across my screen, Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) is said to have been offered a role. Excellent actor, but I still want to see that script.

Last night I believe I finally finished something for the Female Character Trope Fest. I'm just going to read over it again to see if I want to make any changes and then tomorrow maybe post and maybe link to some stuff I like.
wishfulclicking: man in black and white pulling back a curtain to show moving sky (glee: finn glasses)
5. How about when you're not on the computer?

Read books; watch tv & movies; sleep when I can; walk around my neighborhood; school; visit the library; go to used book stores and charity shops to find cheap books

So I've fallen behind on things planned for three weeks of dreamwidth but hopefully next week will be better.

The idea of this site excites me because:

“As we planned it over the last 18 months, my No. 1 goal was to figure out how to capture the spirit and creativity of 30 for 30 and transfer it to a website. We wanted original voices, and we found a bunch of them already. We’re going to take chances, come up with a few premises and ideas that you haven’t seen before, and be consistently entertaining day after day. You will never know what to expect when you come to the site – in a good way. That’s our ultimate goal.”

I adored 30 for 30 even if some of the documentaries fell flat, I just loved that there was a variety of stories being told in different ways. Even if you're not into sports I would say give some of the better ones a try because they stand up as films on their own.

Another thing that pleases me right now is that the contributors are not all guys and even among the guys there is some diversity. That's something easy to fall into, but having a variety of people ensures a range of voices, which increases my chance of finding someone whose words I love. Plus, I like Simmons, he's one of my favorites on ESPN to read and listen to.

3. Do you crosspost? Why or why not?

Posts recapping shows like Justified or Glee I usually crosspost. Random stuff with links and everything I sometimes don't unless I feel like it. Personal stuff gets locked down on dreamwidth only. Somehow this journal has become my primary site in a way my livejournal isn't, and the lj is slowly morphing into a more fannish focus only with no personal stuff at all.

4. What do you do online when you're not on DW?

Google Reader, except I've neglected it for so long I'm almost terrified to clear it out again. Tumblr when it's not blocking me. Various other sites. Sometimes I write online but I'm in the process of moving that to offline.
wishfulclicking: man in black and white pulling back a curtain to show moving sky (brendon kiss kiss)
2. Why did you choose your journal name?

I chose this name (wishfulclicking) originally for livejournal. My thought process went: I want a username, something catchy but not fandom affiliated, nothing to do with my name, and I want it to flow. I went through five different names and then I was thinking of Disney (a dream is a wish your heart makes?) and I just thought about how every time I click I'm wishing for something cool and so: wishfulclicking. I could have changed it when creating my dw but I like this name so it's mine.

In other news: I'm almost done with a fill for the Female Character Trope Fest. It's nice to write again.

Today has been spectacular! Chicago is through, Orlando won a game (I'm still hoping!), and Glee was pretty decent.

wishfulclicking: (beyonce with book)
So I did this last year--fell off somewhere in the middle and picked back up again but I did start and finish it so it counts--and I'm going to do it again. There's already a ton of stuff being posted and my sub list is very busy.

The Female Character Trope Fest is a thing I'm following and participating in. Right now I'm working on some fic for it and it's going well even though I'm stuck on a paragraph, but I have time. I'm thinking perhaps three fills for that fest.

There's also the Femslash Mini Meta Fest. Interesting topics I hope to see filled.

Besides that I plan to comment on journals and probably post to some comms I follow and this Dreamwidth meme.

Why did you sign up for Dreamwidth?

I like new things and I'm easily swayed? Ha, well half of that is true. I'm actually the kind of person to order the same thing off the menu from a restaurant for years just because I know what I like and I hate change sometimes. But back when I was following metafandom this post about Dreamwidth popped up and it was vague and sounded interesting but it wasn't open yet so the idea of the site dropped to the back of my mind; then months later talk came up again and there was talk about beta and features and there had already been this push to copy my livejournal over on insanejournal because of something going on with LJ (if only I knew how good I had it then) and it was in May and I was bored and there was this idea of fandom moving over here, which I never really believed, but I did want to stake claim on my user name.

When I first made my journal I didn't really post that often but then I decided to push to get to know people and comment more and then the fandom I made my lj for kind of broke apart and I don't believe in leaving things adrift so I just started using my DW.

Put your music player on shuffle, and write down the first line of the first twenty songs. Post the poem that results. yes, this is one of my favorite memes

There's no way to temper your thirst
Little old man,
there's a place in your heart
tired of waiting, tired of hiding.

How many special people change?
Oh love, you were a sickly child.
When Jack was born, he winked at mom
Look at all that which surrounds me.

One time in your life
overprescribed.
This is my first wedding,
what's the matter Mary Jane?

Who wants to be right as rain?
I hate it when you say you need me.
There's a song that's inside of my soul.
Saw you the other day.

How do you drive this thing?
Well, I had a dream I stood beneath an orange sky.
Keep the noise low.
You'll never make me stay.

Day 08 - A song that you know all the words to
Written in Reverse by Spoon

It's not until I ad to think about the lyrics to songs that I realized that I didn't really know all the lyrics for majority of songs. Sure, I can make up a bunch of them and kind of muddle together words; and I could only think of three songs that I maybe knew and this was the one I could go through first without being prompted by the music. It also helps that this song doesn't have too many lyrics.

I am trying to do this so it'll carry over to LJ. I did read up on the post about LJ's current problems and it's just making me really aim towards doing my LJ stuff during non-peak hours and just making an early private post and then reposting it by copy when it's due. Also, this is cutting into my fic reading time because I usually do some marathon reading from 8pm-midnight.

Day 07 - A song that reminds you of a certain event

Tonight will be a twofer since I skipped yesterday, also because I'm having a hard time narrowing down my choices.

A Change is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke
When I was seven or eight, it was a New Year's Eve and just before midnight my father put in the cassette tape and my parents danced together to this exact song. It was like the entire world narrowed down to them and this song with this line 'It's been too hard living, but I'm afraid to die' circling in my head. This was the first time I really paid attention to lyrics and let them be more to me than what they had ever been. Sam Cooke, ladies and gents.

Bye Bye Bye by *NSYNC
If you are a certain age, you probably remember when *NSYNC were everywhere and this dance was all over. My friends and I had epic conversations about BSB vs *NSYNC and I watched TRL for video premieres and recorded the MTV Awards on my VCR and then shared it with my classmates in our black market at our tiny private school. All those events are not what I most tie to this song, it's this: sitting in a cramped van at night, riding from Orlando, and listening to the first cassette tape I'd ever bought for myself for the entire trip. It was a little taste of pop liberty.

I'm so feeling tempted to do a Remember When Mix. This is getting ridiculous
wishfulclicking: cassette unlooping (music: overandover)
Day 06 - A song that reminds of you of somewhere
Boston by Augustana

Boston is my dream place. I spent a summer there and fell in love and I still have plans on going back there at some point. Not only am I linking to the original song (in *m4a) but I'm also going to share the acoustic version.
wishfulclicking: man in black and white pulling back a curtain to show moving sky (how it ends)
Day 05 - A song that reminds you of someone
I Don't Know - Lisa Hannigan

This one was the most difficult so far, mostly because memorable music is so wrapped on what I'm feeling and experiencing that I don't have many songs that remind of people involved in my life. It's tangential at best.

But here it is:
There was a boy that made me think that every love song written was about our future; I had never felt so deeply about someone before and the entire experience had me more petrified than anything. His apartment was on the way to my apartment (I swear!) and whenever I'd drive by I'd think about stopping by or something else ridiculous.

//this song fits in the sense that while I did know a lot about that guy, I craved for more//
wishfulclicking: man in black and white pulling back a curtain to show moving sky (glee: kurt tears)
Day 04 - A song that makes you sad
Where Have You Been? by Manchester Orchestra

Just listening to this song pulls down my mood, and there may have been a night when I was already down and then got the the part I can hardly see what's in front of me most days, and those days too and clutched my pillow and cried a bit until I fell asleep with the song on repeat.

I'm really going to try and have a different artist for each song, but no promises
wishfulclicking: thumper from bambi (thumper LOL)
Day 03 - A song that makes you happy
Somebody to Love - Glee Cast

Looking through my library I realized that I don't really listen to music that much when I'm in a great mood, and often music doesn't really make me feel any emotion, it's more often a reflective support of what I'm currently feeling. Still, it was between three songs and because I have just recently had the Glee Soundtrack on constant repeat and spent a lot of time singing along off key and smiling when this song came on, this song won out.
wishfulclicking: ursula shakes it (music: ursula shakes it)

Day 02 - Your least favorite song
Put Yo Hood Up (cover) by Set Your Goals

My weakness for covers has been documented before: I love the ridiculous ones and the ones that add something special. This one made me skip and almost regret my decision to buy this album. For anyone thinking that I should automatically regret buying Punk Goes Crunk, you haven't heard Lorene Drive's Hey Ya :)

It's difficult picking my least favorite song because I don't listen to things I don't like.

Yes, it is past midnight but I haven't slept yet and I spent most of my night doing house stuff. Also: the cool thing about box.net is that you can listen to the track without downloading, so click the link and test out the song if you want before saving it.
wishfulclicking: man in black and white pulling back a curtain to show moving sky (music: makes you feel different)
Day 01 - Your favorite song
Blindness by Metric

Choosing my favorite song was something extremely difficult to do; I don't just have one favorite song and when I went through my Top 75 via Itunes I was stuck in a game of 'this one, no this one!' until I came to an end. So Blindness is my favorite song right now at this moment: I'm playing it often, it has lyrics that make me pause and rewind and want to engrave on my headstone (if I were to have one of those), and it picks up a bit so I can dance around in my poorly lit room too.

After every ten songs, I'm going to post a zip file if anyone wants to do a bulk download. I'm using box.net so the files shouldn't go anywhere unless I delete them
