A Record for the moment

I know, it's another post today; maybe I'm just trying to compensate for my impending absence and recent lack of posting.
*What happened to
bandom_recs ? I went on there because I haven't seen a post from them for a while, and I thought it was just me; but it says here that the last post was in September /o\. I really loved that comm and I don't want to see it die? Is there some sort of unannounced hiatus? Speaking of bandom_recs, I think there should be a holiday themed rec list since it is the time of year for holidays.
* I was just on
patd and apparently there is a copy of the NITA from the Live in Chicago DVD from panic and Ryan comes in *loud and clear* during the background vocals. Comments are being sort of mean. I haven't watched the clip because I want to see the entire DVD, maybe I'll watch it on mute so I can catch a glimpse of Spencer's porn-drumming face. (Yes I wold do it just for that) Plus there is a closeup of Jon's feet! I want this DVD so bad :)
*Speaking of Live performances, I got a copy of Paramore's live CD and now I'm listening to it and loving it. I am/was quite ambivalent towards the band (still not a fan of Misery Business), but hearing them live, I have to say I am so impressed. Haley is such a strong performer and the band sounds fantastic. I remember Paramore had one of the best performances during MTV's boring awards show this year.
* Expect a music post soon.
*I've been watching reruns of The West Wing, and I have to say I adore that show! Josh! Sam! Mandy! Toby! I love all the characters. The dialogue! Also, I've been reading some West Wing fic, sometimes I get sucked into fandoms for a day or two, and I read some of my favorite fics. (Yes, I am diehard into Josh/Sam)
While reading through The West Wing fic, I came to a conclusion: some shows translate really well to fandom/ficcage and others don't. For me, some shows, The West Wing, Friday Night Lights, HIMYM, Pushing Daisies, have such distinctive styles that it's hard to catch that in fic. When I do find it in fic, it's amazing; but it's a hard thing to find. Especially with TWW, there is an exact style of dialogue for each character, so when I go for fic and the dialogue is just not there (and it is hard because Sorkin is amazing with that sometimes! Sports Night... \o/). Or maybe some shows seem so complete already that fic seems very extra sometimes. IDK, I feel like this should be a separate post when I'm not slightly sleep deprived.

like i've always said, they're not the best band around and their songs most certainly aren't the most original, but hayley's voice. that's what makes paramore special.

Date: 2008-11-25 05:33 pm (UTC)You are so right about Paramore. Their music/band is not so different but Hayley's voice is just so special. It stands out so much among the rest of the new crop of 'singers'.

Date: 2008-11-26 12:46 pm (UTC)As much as I appreciate stretching boundaries, it seems like Ryan is singing more (Halloween Song) and I wouldn't want to purchase an album full of his voice, or even one that had more than a third of songs with him leading unless he's improved. One of the main things, musically, I enjoy about PATD is Brendon's voice.
I still love Northern Downpour so much. I don't find Ryan's parts too jarring, just after I heard Jon singing live, I have to say that he sounds better. I don't especially understand why Jon doesn't sing more.
I don't want to leave an entire post as a comment, so I'll just stop there about PATD.
I've only heard that one song from Hey Monday. I know they are touring and stuff now and they're Pete's new band.

Date: 2008-11-27 12:15 pm (UTC)i love the verses of northern downpour with all my heart and more, but the 'sugercane' parts ruin it for me. it's not so much ryan who ruins the song for me, just those parts.

Date: 2008-11-25 06:47 am (UTC)I'm waiting for Dec 5th to be able to buy that from in-store over here. I've avoided absolutely anything to do with watching it. Lol. And poor Ryan. I love that boy. People should have the right to say mean things about him. They aren't up there and being all successful now are they. [/rant] And porn face Spencer *uses special icon.
I've never really been able to get into Paramore. I can appreciate them, but I just can't find myself motivated to listen to them. Do you think that I'd like the live version more???
MUSIC POST!!! *dances*
I can honestly never say I have watched The West Wing. However... I know that there was a [Panic???] TWW fic out a while ago. Have you read it???

Date: 2008-11-25 05:45 pm (UTC)I'm skipping clips now. I can understand not loving Ryan's voice, it's always been a hit or miss for me. When I saw them live, he sounded good and I was shocked and pleased; but I have seen videos where it wasn't that great. I wouldn't be that mean about it; but that's just me, and I'm sort of a sap sometimes. *yay to icon!!!*
I've never been that into Paramore, I don't hate them or anything, but they weren't anything I was interested in. I downloaded a copy of their live album, and I like the songs more. Maybe it's because the audience is like a backup choir with how much they sing the songs after Hayley. I love Hayley's voice though, so that was sort of a draw for me. I'm still sort of in the middle on them. I wouldn't see them live by themselves but if FBR ever decided to do like a festival with all their acts, I wouldn't be opposed to attending.
I've seen so much of the West Wing; and yes, I definitely read that panic fic and I've read the pete/patrick one and of course the bigbang with Gerard as president. I loved every one of them :)
