TV this week

Since Thursday is my last night of watching new television for the week, I decided to do a run through of that I watched this week, going backwards.
Thursday --
Started out with Community which had another strong episode and solidified my belief that Jeff and Annie would probably be more entertaining to watch at the moment, but I think this may be something I'd prefer the show not do too often and get most of my fix from fandom. (Side note: there so needs to be a community on DW for the show, I haven't looked it up on LJ yet, but I am definitely in need of some icons.) My mom was talking to me for most of it, and I can't just tell my mom to stop talking because TV is on now, no matter how often I used to do it when Heroes was on.
Watched part of Parks & Rec and found is mildly funny but it's not something I am going to have to check on regularly.
Spent the next hour between Supernatural and Grey's. SPN was overall funny, like in the first 15 minutes for me, but I wasn't highly into the ghost part and hearing all of the Bale Batman Voice was grating. Becky seemed milder here, and I totally thought of that fic that had her and Chuck hooking up when they actually got together in the canon. I've read probably three different reviews of the ep and some fan reactions and have seen a range of responses and interpretation of things like the mostly male fan con and Becky the Sam girl. Was one of the con goers a woman with a beard, like in Hedwig and the Angry Inch? or was I just imagining it? Either way this season feels like a final season, especially with all of the meta being tossed in and with the Apocalypse looming. Where do you go after the Apocalypse? Now I am wondering if SPN ever did go into syndication (which I don't think any CW show has, Dawson and Roswell but those were WB shows really) would it be placed on a network like Spike in an effort to chase at their desired predominantly male fandom.
Oh Grey's. I really think they need to let Heigl go at this point. I used to really love the character of Izzie, even with Heigl's public acknowledgment of sub par material I still didn't want her character to leave the show, but now it feels like the show could easily move on without her there. The episodes without Izzie went so well to me, and I think I find her annoying in the same way that I find Derek annoying in that they always feel victimized and in the right. I can't even think of a recent arc focused on Izzie where I loved her character. In the earlier seasons, I cheered when she stood up to Alex about the calendar thing; but it feels like they didn't know what to do with her after Denny. But I am definitely with the idea of them splitting up. I just think they deserve better. Izzie, I think, needs to deal with things on her own and I don't see her being ready for a relationship just now; and Alex needs some time away.
But I think with this episode, I'm just going to pull away from Grey's completely. Even with the injection of the new people, which I think it had a good effect because the main cast was getting kind of stale to me with their interactions at times, I feel like I've gotten everything I want out of this show. Maybe it's more of a call for me to take a break and just check back in later; but I've been with Grey's from the beginning and I think they reached a high point when Alex carried Izzie in the prom dress out of Denny's room with Chasing Cars playing in the background. Even with awesome characters like Bailey, I'm just tired.
This scene continues to be able to make tears come a bit. Though I was still upset how they handled the whole heart situation and the aftermath, I still felt so bad for Izzie. Also this was a real highlight of sympathetic-Alex for me
Ended the night with It's Always Sunny--another funny episode but not one of my favorites--and some reruns of Robot Chicken.
Wednesday
Watched the elimination episode of SYTYCD, I'm not that surprised who went home.
Glee was good. I continue to love Kurt's story lines, and while the music was my favorite, I did like seeing Dancing With Myself in action. Normally there would be more but I've been talking about Glee since the episode aired all over other people's journals and on the comm that I would just be repeating what I've already said. Though I do think I'm going to make a separate post because there are some questions I would like to ask.
Missed Criminal Minds but I'm okay with that. I may watch next week and catch Glee on hulu since CBS refuses to air their stuff online.
Tuesday
SYTYCD for two hours. I really think SYTYCD works better as a summer show than on the fall, but I believe Adam Shankman was one of the best decisions they made and I hope he sticks around. He brings a levity but also some really insightful commentary to the judging. Also, can the guy who did the African Jazz please stay around :)
Sons of Anarchy was amazing, brought tears to my eyes and made me say 'Who Deserves an Emmy?'. Katey Sagal is awesome and all the actors bring their best. As much as I miss Rachel on Mad Men, I adore her here and I never want to see her leave the show.
Monday
I actually had to pull up a list of what aired on Monday night to refresh my memory. That's how far Monday's have fallen for me, especially since Greek is off the air for now. I did watch Heroes and I've come to the place where I am done with that show. There are a lot of reasons, but this post has gotten longer than I thought, and maybe I'll make a separate post some day when I need something to post about. Just know that I pretty much love the cast but can't stand the creators and the writing on this show. I hope the rumors that this is the final season is true.
Sunday
Mad Men. FTW.
Overall this has been a good week for television for me: Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy, Community, Glee all delivered great things on different levels that made me feel. I love it when tv does that.

Date: 2009-11-13 06:07 pm (UTC)It made me sad, because I was pretty rabid about it when it first aired, and it gave me chills so many times. But then it just went flat, or too long, or something.

Date: 2009-11-13 08:08 pm (UTC)I stuck with it even through Season 2, and after the writers' strike; but I'm not going to keep on watching a show that frustrates me so much. I don't watch things that leave me feeling more negative than when I started; and mostly everything I've loved about that show has been diminished or warped beyond recognition. There comes a time when I can't keep wishing a show to be better.

Date: 2009-11-13 08:13 pm (UTC)I'm glad we dropped a few things last year, because otherwise our viewing schedule would be even more out of control than it already is. At least the staggered schedule of things coming back is helping us not be completely snowed under. Someday I should do a rundown in my journal of what we're actively DVRing/watching now, what we hunt down after the fact, and what's in line for when it comes back (things like Eureka or Burn Notice, or things like Chuck which are coming back mid-season). It's actually kind of a funny list when taken in combination.

Date: 2009-11-13 08:21 pm (UTC)I started Flash Forward and I was really excited about it before, but now I'm mostly ambivalent towards it. I may pick it up on hulu again.

Date: 2009-11-14 08:50 pm (UTC)I'll be sad if Burn Notice winds down, but I'd rather see a show go out strong than fade into a sad whimper, so I'll deal with it if it goes out on purpose, with a proper storyline to do it.
Flash Forward didn't really hook me until about episode 4? Maybe that was it. They started doing some things with the Flashes that really intrigued me and I'm curious about that. I'm the sort who likes to pick those things apart, which is why I'm watching it, I think. I love to see how time paradoxes sort out.

Date: 2009-11-14 01:03 am (UTC)Monday has unexpectedly become my fave night of television, mostly because of Castle (a million times better this season than last) and Trauma, which started out rough, but has really improved the last few eps (the Halloween ep actually made me cry because Tyler was so brave and amazing).

Date: 2009-11-14 01:08 am (UTC)The part of Castle that I've seen, I've liked but I never remember when it's actually on. I am glad it's doing well.
Grey's pulls in such big numbers that I don't see it going anywhere soon, but I don't feel an urge to watch anymore.
Though I will give Rhime's new show a chance if that still airs.
