A recount of the day of Panic (aka thebestdayeveromg!)

I almost got into several accidents getting to the venue. I swear it was the most careful I have ever driven in a long time. PATD=my anti-speeding mechanism. I kept to the middle lane and stayed under the speed limit (I-275 sucks so much. I honestly postulate that the interstate was created by someone with a latent hatred for Floridians.) I left almost an hour after I wanted to and I made two wrong turns, plus I had to stop to get some cheap gas (cheap! gas! oh what mockery...)

I got there at 1:37 and people were already in line! Yet, I had to leave and find some food--unless I wanted to go into a hypoglycemic rage and begin a trek into cannibalism (I am a vegetarian!).  The pizza place ended up being horrible so I won't go into details.

When I went back to Ruth Eckerd Hall, I still had over 4 hours to wait until the show. One of the first things I see when I get to the parking lot: The Hippie Bus! I want to say that I did not freak out, but I sort of did---internally. They had the Honda Civic all out front and center, so I had to get a pic with Spencer's signature on it, though my camera phone is crap so I can only see a blob of black. In order to make myself feel even more awkward and weird, I walked near the bus and tried not to look too odd--though I suspect the more you try to look normal, the less you really do. Luckily, I had a book, A History of Love, which I recommend to everyone.

I was at the concert by myself, but that could not be really helped. A cool thing about that was that I met a fellow Panic fan. She was really cool and she loved the entire Pretty.Odd. album. We had some great conversation.
Line moment #1 -- Zack completely holds down the line. I've seen pictures of Zack and stuff--I've even read fic featuring Zack (both of them awesome!)  When I saw him in person my first thought (he is real. ) and my second thought was 'he could kill me with his bare hands---that is so cool'.
Line Moment #2-- So they were taking pictures of the line; and I am an antisocial freak with a book. When I see the camera I pointedly look down and start reading. I so do not want that picture out--what can I do?

Concert Time!!

The first opening act was Phantom Planet. I remember PP from the California Days (which they had to play--think of it like the IWSNT of Phantom Planet). I do not actually know many of their songs except for Big Brat--which I kind of loved. They are a good band, and they really know how to work a crowd. The lead singer is crazy awesome and has extremely long legs---like for real. Their new single 'Don't Panic' sounds sort of good. This year might be their year.

The second act was The Hush Sound. I actually knew something about this band and I was really excited to hear them. Greta is amazing live and I completely was fixated on the drummer. I completely have a drummer kink. I have accepted this, and I have moved on. I blame Spencer. The songs I caught were Honey, Like Vines, Wine Red (lovely song!), and there was the song that Brendon came out on. The minute Brendon came out, everyone went completely insane. Really he sounded just great. I need to say that Brendon Urie has a great voice and he has really grown into it .

Motion City Soundtrack. I had actually never heard of this band before. I had probably heard some of their songs, but this was my first time having a name to put to the sound. Probably 60-70% of the crowd went crazy for them. I know some people were mostly for them anyways--but make no mistake this was a Panic Crowd. A cool thing about this was that I saw one of their major fans was a row in front of me and she held it down. She was singing the words and dancing---I find it interesting to watch someone be completely invested in a band. Funny thing-- I completely thought that 'Everything will be alright' was 'Jenny change your mind'--I fail at interpreting lyrics.

PANIC AT THE DISCO!  I went into this concert expecting good music and a cool atmosphere. Usually, I do not move in a concert at all. I have sat through entire concerts and never moved a muscle. Also, I am not the kind of person to scream or anything like that. (Panic completely faked us out and pretended like they were coming out, but actually didn't for five minutes---) When Panic does come out, well I think I may have lost my mind. They, of course, started out with We're So Starving/Nine in the Afternoon--I love that song so much, everyone was singing along. I want to say they transitioned into But It's Better if You Do--and I can not say what they changed, but the songs sound amazing live. I will not lie and say I was completely confident in the awesome, but this show made me such a believer.  I can not even remember all the songs--Lying, IWSNT, Camisado, The Only Difference..., TGG, Northern Downpour, Time to Dance (acoustic), Folkin' Around, Behind the Sea, Mad as Rabbits, Pas de Cheval.

I was initially doubtful about Behind the Sea, but Ryan Ross actually sounds good live. Brendon will always be the lead singer, but I don't hate Ross on that track. Would I buy an entire album of his songs? Maybe not---they would have to be some kick ass songs lyrically. Even then I would want a Urie cover of those songs (did I just describe AFYCSO?--I jest in love)

Folkin' Around is a good song. It is nowhere near my favorite, but you can tell Urie loves it and I understand the importance of that song on this album.

As I've said in a previous post, Spencer Smith is the SEX while drumming. Honestly, I find Spencer hot 24/7--this is not a secret. I will even admit my initial doubt of the beard of badassness ( I will even cop to thinking it was a beard of bad choices---I used to be stupid ;) When you see Mr. Smith in action, you will have no doubts. At first I thought I had a prime seat to view Spencer, but Panic required a bigger stage and I had to strain to see him. GUH!!! SPENCER! I almost believe not having a M&G was a good thing, because I need exposure to real live Panic in small doses. I completely never thought that I was going to flip out during their set, but I did. Songs which made the hotness front and center: The Only Difference between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage, Lying, Pas De Cheval, But It's Better If You Do, Mad as Rabbits, (All of Them!!!). Spencer was actually singing on one of the songs---Northern Downpour? I can't even remember because my mind goes sort of blank and blurs it all into --SPENCER.AWESOME.SPENCER.HOT.BRENDON.JON.

Ryan Ross wears old men attire, and I love it. ( I completely saw a girl!Ryan and she looked so much like him it was ridiculous.) He was totally playing to Spencer, which always makes me so happy.

Jon Walker was sort of subdued. Though he did start the clapping during one song; and he also invited himself to some girl's pool. He also wore his shades at night. He went and talked to Spencer for a bit. This is how I imagine the exchange:

Jon: Hey, I just saw you over there looking hot. Had to say hi! Wanna smoke?
Spencer: Of Course Jon. I would cock a hip at you if I could. You're looking sort of hot yourself.
I do not actually think that. Well, maybe except for the 'Wanna smoke' part. Also, it is midnight and I am ridiculous. You may not know that (yet).

Brendon Urie internalizes the !. End of story. The man was running around the stage. He was defying gravity! He jumped on the riser and played to Spencer (that is always good to me). He sang Time to Dance --acoustic. He completely knows how to work a crowd. He is not my favorite, but he actually may be second.

Yeah Pretty.Odd.---this Panic band is just great. You can tell they love these songs. The only basis I have is the Denver DVD, but they sound so much better this time around. I recommend to anyone to see a band they love live if they can.

Why Panic gets points--
  • They helped me overcome a slight case of social anxiety. Seriously, I don't usually talk to strangers, but the sheer joy of being at a Panic show was enough for me to get over it and initiate a conversation. Sure it is much easier when you know that you have something in common--- a love for Panic. She was more of a Ryan and Brendon person; but I had to share my adoration of Spencer and Jon.
  • They almost made me deaf--and I loved every second of it.
  • SPARTA...at the disco! One of the best random text messages ever. Some of the worsts: All the scream ones that were repetitive and sort of annoying.  Everyone who made sure Spencer and Jon got love have eternal points!
  • Ryan agrees that Brendon is bootylicious. That will never not be funny. (I know he probably meant that 98% of the people in the venue thought Urie is bootylicious, but he said 'I'm pretty sure he is not the only one who thinks that' Take that as you will.
  • I was rocking out next to a 40 something man, and it was awesome. He wore eyeliner. I hope I am as cool as he seemed to be when I am that age.
  •
This has gotten long. I am not sorry.
