Yuletide Letter 2014

Hello,
Thank you so much for the story you are going to write for me. I adore all these fandoms in various but equal ways and am looking forward to reading what you write. Below is a list of things I especially like, it is by no means whole, just broad enough in hopes to jumpstart you if you’ve hit a block. Even if what you write is not on this list, it’s not a big deal, this list just skims the surface of some of my absolute favorite tropes. Het, femslash, slash, gen, it is all good to me. Don't stress about this.
//Delicious fic tag of everything I’ve really liked
//AO3 Bookmarks
//Tumblr where I’m most active recently
Things I Like:
Happy Endings, even if ambiguous at least a chance of hope
Pining
Secret Marriages/Relationships
Time Travel
banter (if applicable to the characters)
earned relationships
Magic woven into non-spectacular settings/modern
wall sex
devoted friendships being pressured but coming through in the end
Alternate Universes where the canon relationships are mapped on a different terrain but still come through
Dark AUs (criminals, everything leading to a bad place but it’s okay because the group/pairing is together)
People with crushes meeting up later on
Unrequited Love leading to the person meeting someone else
Canon Turn AUs - exploring paths not taken with repercussion rippling throughout
Things I’d rather not have in this story:
Noncon/Rape - even if it is in canon please no scenes focused on the act; implied, mentioned is fine
Sanctioned Infidelity - I don’t care if a couple hooks up while one or two are involved with others but I don’t want the cheated on party being painted as villains or deserving to be cheated on
Hard Kink - scat, vore, etc.
BDSM
Deathfic (unless it’s in the canon but no focus on the act itself of the main character dying)
Extreme graphic Underage (nothing below 15 yrs old)
//If a canon includes any of the above of the second section, then don't feel like you have to avoid it. I just would prefer these things not be added to a story if not already present in canon. So if there is cheating involved and the cheated on partner is an actual villain, don't feel like you have to gloss over that.//
Tenderness (novel) by Robert Cormier
Char requested: Lori Cranston, Eric Poole
Tenderness is a dark, YA novel following Eric Poole after he’s been newly released from a juvenile correction center for the murder of his mother and stepfather, just when he sets out to meet a girl he met at the center, Lori Cranston forces her way onto his path and from there the book follows them to the und, showcasing how they affect each other. As the pair set out on their journey, a cop, Jake Proctor is on the chase, attempting to make up for past failings by putting Eric back behind bars.
The Lori/Eric dynamic is the most attractive thing for me in this novel; that and how Eric’s depravity is so calmly presented and Lori’s devotion and goal that stands on its own and intersect with Eric, and --a case can be made-- devours him. The ending with Eric trying to save Lori and failing and going to jail for a murder he didn’t commit, in the cell with a part of him crying is still one of the best things I’ve experienced in fiction.
Favorite things: Lori’s quest to kiss guys to get over her crush, the hints about Eric’s past with his mother, Lori knowing Eric wanted to kill her and giving him permission (the hotel scene), Lori warning Eric about the cops, their whole shopping trip, the boat ride of tragedy.
I love AUs as long as the canon feel is still there; so if you want to do something like Tenderness set in Space, I will definitely find a way to enjoy it.
Some things I’d love to see are: what-if of both of them surviving;Eric during his time in prison; Eric dies and what does Lori do next, they run off together and go on another terrible roadtrip together
Knights of Sidonia
Characters Requested: Tanikaze Nagate, Shinatose Izana, Kunato Norio, Honoka Ren
Knights of Sidonia is set in a future where most of humanity has been wiped out by monsters known as Guana (insert pic) and the lone space station floats through space, fighting off attacks and trying to maintain its populace. Certain people are chosen to enter service and pilot mecha to fight any of the Guana. Tanikaze Nagate is found hiding in the underground, and becomes a pilot.
The setting and how the characters interact with their world is my favorite thing about the show. The population control mechanics, the shadow lead council, the tension between the civilians and the military, clones and accelerated aging; all these things excited me. I’d love to read a story that explores these characters in this world.
Favorite Things: Tanikaze needing to eat more; the secret of his origins; Izana’s third gender and how that affects her relationships*; the Honoka clan of clone siblings and how they have five years but look like teenagers; Kunato dealing with no longer being favored and the PTSD of his actions during the battle.
*In the anime Izana tells Tanikaze about not being neither a boy nor a girl, but does respond to female pronouns from others. I have no exact preference for the pronoun usage in the story; do whatever makes you feel comfortable.
I am basing this request on the 12 episode season offered on Netflix; and, while I am aware of future events in the manga, would rather the story be based on what is given in the anime and not feel constrained by the manga events. So how certain characters die, feel free to ignore that because that has not happened in the anime.
Some things I’d like to see are: Izana and Tanikaze getting together on some level and then at times her gender appearance shifts and what does that mean for them; Kunato trying to gain political power to know more about the station; Ren Honoka dealing with the loss of her sister; what are the characters doing in the future?
Gotham
Characters Requested: Fish Mooney, Renee Montoya, Barbara Kean, Ivy Pepper
Gotham’s dark, noir design put against some of the cartoony dialogue just works for me. Some of these characters like Fish Mooney seem larger than life and I love seeing them on screen. Gotham as a city becoming consumed by darkness and insanity appeals to me so much. All of the requested characters interest me. With canon being an ongoing thing, I know how certain things can get jossed but I’m writing this after 1x05 has aired.
Somethings I’d like to see are: anything exploring Renee and Barbara’s history; Fish Mooney’s rise to power like is she a native to Gotham, a transplant? How is running the club daily for her? Feel free to have Liza in the background or around if the story requires it. What is her history with Bullock? What does Barbara do when she’s not around Jim? What does Ivy Pepper do after she’s last shown in the show? How is Renee when she’s working a case?
I am familiar with Batman mythology, mostly through the Animated series and movies, but I have read some comics too. I am not bonded with any piece of outside canon.
The Flash
Characters Requested: Barry Allen, Harrison Wells, Cisco Ramon, Iris
Everything about The Flash I love. The family bonds, the exuberance of the show, Barry’s positive nature, Cisco Ramon and his names, Iris’ determination to find out more about the new things going on and her devotion to her family, these are just some of the things I enjoy about the show.
Any kind of pairing (from the creep flavor of Barry/Harrison, to the sweet possibility of Barry/Iris, Cisco Ramon/Barry, really any combo of these characters will interest me). No pairings is great too: what other stories does Iris run into while researching the latest wave of super powered individuals? Is this Harrison’s first time interfering with things? If those other trials went poorly, what happened? Cisco Ramon and Caitlin seem to be the last ones left; what made them decide to stay? I liked the scene of Barry ‘confessing’ to Iris while on superspeed, so when were some other times he used his powers to say something the other person couldn’t hear?
