meta, psych, ivy league, fics of random fandom
So I signed up to do a post explaining 5 of my interests----that was at least over a week ago :)
I am going to do 4 out of the 5, because the 5th one (bandom) requires its own post. (Yes, it will be that long.)
Meta -- One of the main things that gets me extra hype and excited is a good discussion. I seriously enjoy talking about topics about the fandom: pairings, characterization, story ideas, trends, etc. Some of my favorite LJ memories are discussions I have had with some of you about different things. I love the fanfiction, but I also really enjoy the fans. I keep on encountering awesome people with amazing ideas---GUYS I LOVE THIS FANDOM. (Wow, I am getting off topic)
Ivy League -- If I ever do get to throw that beach party I dream about, I am totally going to have Ivy League perform their songs. Seriously, 'Rich Kids' just takes me back to all those Summer Beach movies set in the 60s. The fact that these two guys are in Cobra Starship makes me so glad. I believe in the notion of 'genre?what genre?' when it comes to music, and I just appreciate Ryland and Alex kind of displaying the same attitude. The first song that made me interested in them was 'Crown of Love': 'you carved your name across my eyelids. you pray for rain, I pray for blindness' Seriously guys.
Psych -- This is a show on USA that features a guy claiming to be a psychic while solving crimes with the Police. It is a really funny show and it is such a great show due to their actors. I have not really got into the fandom yet---but I plan to. Really, USA is sort of owning my soul with all their great programming.
Fics of Random Fandoms -- I have a history of just reading fics from fandoms I have no knowledge about. In the beginning of my fannish experience, I used to watch the show/read book and then go search for fic (Sailormoon, Gundam Wing, DBZ, A Separate Peace, Lord of the Rings, etc.) Then after I start loving a certain author, I start looking at what else they write and if it seems interesting I will give it a try. I think most of this has to do with the fact that I am a reader. I just love the written word, so as long as the story is good I will generally like it. Sure, after I become more invested I may enjoy a story more. Ignorance of a fandom is not enough for me to not read a fic. If a story seems cool or I am just bored, I will read a fic of a random fandom. (SGA-- clicked on one fic and then got sucked in for over months; Harry Potter--here is a confession, I have never read a book for HP but I have read tons of fic--and I still do)
The only reason I got into bandom was by clicking on a random fic I found on
polyfandomrecs
The next post will be the 5th interest and it will be all about bandom!

Date: 2008-06-16 12:04 pm (UTC)Psych- We had Psych over here for a while... but then they took it of air. *pouts* from what I saw it was a fairly cool show. Coz pretending to be a psychic is just hilarious and an awesome idea. /i think I'm going to have to buy the boxset.
Ivy League- *hides* I can't say that I've heard much of their stuff. I'm gonna have to go downloading now... coz i know you have an awesome taste in music.
Fics of Random Fandom- I totally do that. Go and see what else a writer has written and read it even if I've never read anything from that fandom before. Lol. Also... how much fun is it to say "Random Fandom" outloud. lol.
