I can so feel you on the Smashing Pumpkins song. I downloaded the original, but their lead singer's voice is just sort of grating for me. Yeah, he wrote excellent lyrics; but Brendon's voice just makes me love that song so much more.
(Speaking of covers that improved upon the original IMO--- when Patrick Stump covered Kanye West's 'Love Lockdown', he killed any chance of me appreciating Kanye West's attempts at singing, even with whatever voice modifier thing he was using. )
