wishfulclicking: heero yuy cackles too (heero glee)

Recently finished: Knights of Sidonia a well-made sci-fi anime with detailed worldbuilding and good plot movement. The premise of having a (possible) lone space colony fighting against roaming flesh like monsters that can impersonate forms (gauna) with a secretive cabal running things and the special pilot who is better than everyone else but doesn't act like it. Even with the main character being great, he is neither cocky or as broken as Shinji in Neon Evangelion. The supporting cast is good: I really liked Izana being a third gender and how it is not just forgotten after its mentioned in the first episode. The society in reaction to the horrifying gauna attacks and limited resources makes sense: there's cloning, expedited aging, human photosynthesis, people are recycled, deaths are scheduled.

Currently watching:

Legend of Korra I am terribly behind but find this recent season a huge upgrade from the last one; the move to online streaming worries me a bit, even with the 4th season already being animated.

The Tudors: This I mostly watch in chunks even with the main actor's performance bothering me 60% of the time; JRM just has this very focused stare and at times falls into OTT acting moments, which are especially stark against a more contained actor. Bonuses: Henry Cavill at peak hotness; my goodness. I almost wish he was the lead but then I may not be able to fully hate Henry the way I currently do. Natalie Dormer as Anne Boleyn; I prefer this performance to her Margaery Tyrell in GOT, but that may be partly because the Anne Boleyn character is more fleshed out in this show, considering she is a co-lead for a season and a half. But I also did love her has Moriarty in Elementary. Of course, the clothes, especially Anne's wardrobe. I could just do a continuous picspam on how the clothes are telling a story in this show.

I also do like this secular view of the Reformation.

The Bridge: I need to make a post on this show because I love it so much, even with its faults, especially in season 1.

Madoka Magica Now I need to watch Rebellion. My favorite thing visually were the battles; but I did especially like the time loop aspect and what that meant for Homura and Madoka, even if I didn't fully care for the characters. A surprising high point was Sayaka's backstory with her father.

Still need to see: The Strain, Penny Dreadful
