The thing with Glee is that it is an uneven show: when it's good, it's really good and I don't mean good as in giving me every plot point I want but combining everything--music, dialog, humor, a bit of heart--that makes the show a pleasure to watch, and when it's bad, it's so frustrating. But musicals and bright colors are a siren song for me and I do enjoy the show on some levels.
Silly Love Songs was much better than the superbowl episode.
This whole Finn-Quinn thing doesn't disturb me, perhaps mostly because I know it's temporary. From early in the first season I saw Finn as a douche so his current deluded confidence and circular logic justifying cheating with Quinn didn't really surprise me, nor did it feel so OOC. Finn's magnetism eluded me but often the magnetism of the main popular 'heartthrob' eludes me in teen shows so that's nothing new. That's not to say that I don't appreciate Finn's better moments but when he slides to lesser stellar conditions, he doesn't exactly surprise me either.
Quinn though. I remember that moment in the first season when she said she wanted to do things alone and I had this foolish hope that the second season would see her settling more into herself, and I'm still going to cling to that hope that this is a road to self discovery for her (and maybe a mention of Beth again).
The main reason this works for me though is that we've never seen Finn and Quinn be together without stress, so thinking they ruled the school and Quinn obviously wants that back and Finn feels like it's just in his reach (and it is important to him. I really think Finn values social standing more than most) and Finn and Rachel just broke up, so I'm not shocked that they would try and return to each other to a degree. I'm also not surprised that Quinn kept the safety net of Sam around as well.
I do feel slightly bad for Sam (but then I remember that ridiculous ring scene and the whole constant reminder that he's fixated on popularity as well and my feelings decrease just a bit). Or to clarify: I do think Quinn and Sam are fond of each other, and that a relationship initially based off of seeking popularity can grow into more; but this current ep kind of killed the pairing for me. Granted it was not a hard death to receive. But Sam is still the new kid and it never felt more apparent than this episode when the two people he seemed to be most connected with hit him with a one two punch that sent him to cake.
Getting tired of the Warblers. The WIGYA was funny, embarrassing and Jeremiah reminded me of a prettier version of Sean from Degrassi. Kudos though for Kurt maturing and not flipping out when he realized Blaine's crush wasn't (currently?) on him. As much as some people seem to love the pairing, it's not official yet. I do feel though that as long as Criss has been around the character may as well be Kurt's first kiss and get it over with. I'm just ready for Kurt to return to McKinley.
Tina had a love meltdown over Mike Chang. Funny yet disturbing at the same time. Is this the beginning of the end?
I desperately want Rachel to stay alone and become more comfortable with herself but I'm not holding my breath for it. Definitely want more friendship stories.
Puck and Lauren did not feel like a gimmick or a joke so I'm okay with it. Puck is a sex shark. That is all.
