What a difference time makes
So If I had been posting hours earlier, this post would have probably been sprinkled in emo and boredom; but, not anymore! Thanks to some sort of LJ freeze (IDK!), I stepped away from the internet (maybe I could say unplugged ;) and came back and my flist is full of good things:
*If there was ever any doubt about why I adore Patrick Stump and why he is not only preaching sex from a microphone stand but is also my favorite. His current blog post explaining the Blender brouhaha (I have always wanted to use that word, it's true) just solidified that. Though I still stand by my offer to hug Joe Trohman :)
*The LJ panic has died down, so we all can breathe easy and get back to our good work of writing porn.
*Critics are still confounding me about Panic at the Disco. And really, if I wasn't confused by critics, then I wouldn't be me, so that is a good thing.
*That prompt thing, it's coming together well. Hooray to finishing!
*Listening to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs is always a good thing.
*TOP CHEF!!!!
* Did anyone watch Nip/Tuck?

would you happen to have a link to this? -cheeky smile-
what are the critics saying about panic?

Oh Patrick!
Critics are being so flip-flop with them. Panic seems to be one of those bands you don't want to admit to actually like if you want any musical weight. I don't think they create the best stuff all the time, but I don't think they deserve to be on The Worst of lists either.
(The Cab are doing a song on the Punk goes Pop 2 compilation, you know anything about that?)

the thing with panic is that fever got them a "zomgz gay emo" reputation, and i get the idea that people don't even give them a chance anymore for that.
in my eyes, panic! at the disco and panic at the disco are almost two seperate bands. pretty. odd. is musically speaking a pretty good album, but people don't seem to acknowledge this because they can't (or don't want to) get rid of their prejudices.
oh, panic. -cuddles-
i heard the cab covered disturbia by rihanna for that, but i don't know much about rihanna or pop singers in general so i have no idea if that song even exists!

You are completely right about panic and their perception. I try not to get all involved with media and the bands (Hello, Blender!) but sometimes I'm just left going 'huh'.
Disturbia does exists as a song, I'd be interested to see what they do with it; but I don't love this song.

that's the link to the original rihanna song

i hate how narrow-minded people are nowadays. they won't give anything outside their comfort zone a chance. it's a shame.
i just watched disturbia, i don't really like that kind of music because... it's all electronic and made on a computer and that's not music to me. it's going to be hilarious to hear singer sing this.

I can understand your statement about electronic music. I just love it when an album sounds like people with instruments.

people with instruments are so much more genuine. i guess the main reason for me not really caring about singers like rihanna is the fact that they don't write their own songs, though... they're just the voice and the face. i do acknowledge that they're great songs, good voices and pretty faces, but it's just not what i personally want from music!

I tend to buy music that I want to hear more of. Am I buying this because it's popular or do I actually like it? Would I still want it even if it wasn't the current big thing?
Besides, I like it when an artist sounds good live; usually, a ton of current popular people don't sound that great live. That annoys me.

it's fascinating how music seems to be this universal thing that everyone understands. everyone adds a different kind of value to music, but everyone knows and understands and appreciates it, you know?
Would I still want it even if it wasn't the current big thing?
i tend not to know about many unsigned/unknown bands, just because i don't actively search for them. does this make me a bad music snob? ;)
oh yes, i love it when people are good live. live is the way music should be. god, i love concerts/festivals. the ambiance, the feeling of being one with the crowd. i love it. it makes my soul happy.

I remember one critic said something like good music will still be played five years from now, I would like to believe that; well good music and music that is really popular now.
Concerts are one of my favorite things. You can't really catch that same feeling through any other medium. You're there with fellow fans and everyone pretty much loves the band/performers so you're all there to have a good time.
I want to go to so many more shows this year.
