wishfulclicking: man in black and white pulling back a curtain to show moving sky (i want to be coffee)
[personal profile] wishfulclicking
So If I had been posting hours earlier, this post would have probably been sprinkled in emo and boredom; but, not anymore! Thanks to some sort of LJ freeze (IDK!), I stepped away from the internet (maybe I could say unplugged ;) and came back and my flist is full of good things:

*If there was ever any doubt about why I adore Patrick Stump and why he is not only preaching sex from a microphone stand but is also my favorite. His current blog post explaining the Blender brouhaha (I have always wanted to use that word, it's true) just solidified that. Though I still stand by my offer to hug Joe Trohman :)

*The LJ panic has died down, so we all can breathe easy and get back to our good work of writing porn.

*Critics are still confounding me about Panic at the Disco. And really, if I wasn't confused by critics, then I wouldn't be me, so that is a good thing.

*That prompt thing, it's coming together well. Hooray to finishing!

*Listening to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs is always a good thing.

*TOP CHEF!!!!

* Did anyone watch Nip/Tuck?

I think there is a massive adoption for Joe going on now :)

It seems like there is a love/hate thing with Panic. They are making 'The Best of' lists and the 'worst of' and it just seems weird. I don't really pay much attention to musicc critic, just to hear new names; but that was just me being weird.

My thing with Nip/Tuck is that I used to really enjoy it and then I fell off because it started annoying me. The beginning of this season, had some good parts but I'm kind of sick of those two constantly being jerks. In the beginning I used to love Sean and kind of detest Christian, but now that has completely flipped.

Joe needs it.

Panic is made of win...I don't understand why every one didn't love the new album...The only song that reminded me of the beatles was "The Piano Knows Something I don't know.."

I've only ever watched it the once...So i don't know.

I read it off of icecreamheadaches, http://icecreamhdaches.livejournal.com/666693.html

Oh Patrick!

Critics are being so flip-flop with them. Panic seems to be one of those bands you don't want to admit to actually like if you want any musical weight. I don't think they create the best stuff all the time, but I don't think they deserve to be on The Worst of lists either.

(The Cab are doing a song on the Punk goes Pop 2 compilation, you know anything about that?)

PATRICK STUMP, I LOVE YOU. ♥_♥

the thing with panic is that fever got them a "zomgz gay emo" reputation, and i get the idea that people don't even give them a chance anymore for that.
in my eyes, panic! at the disco and panic at the disco are almost two seperate bands. pretty. odd. is musically speaking a pretty good album, but people don't seem to acknowledge this because they can't (or don't want to) get rid of their prejudices.

oh, panic. -cuddles-

i heard the cab covered disturbia by rihanna for that, but i don't know much about rihanna or pop singers in general so i have no idea if that song even exists!

I KNOW RIGHT? PATRICK STUMP \o/

You are completely right about panic and their perception. I try not to get all involved with media and the bands (Hello, Blender!) but sometimes I'm just left going 'huh'.

Disturbia does exists as a song, I'd be interested to see what they do with it; but I don't love this song.

that's the link to the original rihanna song

i love him so, so much - he deserves so much more than just living in pete's shadow. but, y'know, he seems content with it himself, so who am i to judge?

i hate how narrow-minded people are nowadays. they won't give anything outside their comfort zone a chance. it's a shame.

i just watched disturbia, i don't really like that kind of music because... it's all electronic and made on a computer and that's not music to me. it's going to be hilarious to hear singer sing this.

I wonder if they use some electronic stuff so his voice could have the same sound. I do have the punk goes crunk CD, which was a fit of randomness. I'll probably just listen to some clips.

I can understand your statement about electronic music. I just love it when an album sounds like people with instruments.

i hope not... i really don't like edited voices :(

people with instruments are so much more genuine. i guess the main reason for me not really caring about singers like rihanna is the fact that they don't write their own songs, though... they're just the voice and the face. i do acknowledge that they're great songs, good voices and pretty faces, but it's just not what i personally want from music!

Now you're getting me all nostalgic about music :) While I can acknowledge the catchiness of a ton of pop music, but it all feels so much like a product. I'm not deluded enough to think that every musician doesn't want to make money, but I love music made by people and not focus groups. I love it when you see an artist talk about a song you love and they wrote it and it seems like there is a connection there.

I tend to buy music that I want to hear more of. Am I buying this because it's popular or do I actually like it? Would I still want it even if it wasn't the current big thing?

Besides, I like it when an artist sounds good live; usually, a ton of current popular people don't sound that great live. That annoys me.

exactly. it's all music, but the "real" music is so much more significant to me.
it's fascinating how music seems to be this universal thing that everyone understands. everyone adds a different kind of value to music, but everyone knows and understands and appreciates it, you know?

Would I still want it even if it wasn't the current big thing?
i tend not to know about many unsigned/unknown bands, just because i don't actively search for them. does this make me a bad music snob? ;)

oh yes, i love it when people are good live. live is the way music should be. god, i love concerts/festivals. the ambiance, the feeling of being one with the crowd. i love it. it makes my soul happy.

I don't know about many unsigned/unknown bands either. (so we can be bad music snobs together :) Usually if I hear something I like, I try to see what else they do; or if I read a lyric I love, I have to know who wrote it.

I remember one critic said something like good music will still be played five years from now, I would like to believe that; well good music and music that is really popular now.

Concerts are one of my favorite things. You can't really catch that same feeling through any other medium. You're there with fellow fans and everyone pretty much loves the band/performers so you're all there to have a good time.

I want to go to so many more shows this year.

IKR? Let's channel all that energy into something really productive like fic. That's my suggestion.

Totally.
I'm currently trying to finish the thing I've been working on since 2005. Still no ending.

Fail.

For the last year it's been about a sentence a week. Then I randomly edit it every so often. It's not even that long.

that is a good story; you got my email about right? I really hope you do finish it. (If you ever want to talk about it or anything, I'm totally open to it, if you want.)

Thanks. I didn't want it to be the traditional slave/master fic, because originally it was. Frank and Gerard fell in love, he has a suite of rooms, it was... dull.

I think I got the email yeah, sorry I didn't reply, I didn't know what to say. Thanks. I'm getting a hand with the end, because I know how to write it, I just don't want it to end up being a quick finish, or contrived.

(I might take you up on that some time... other than that chuck of speech up there ^)
