ok, ok, this may tingle

So I get off the internet/LJ for almost a day and then I come back to sweet things! Things like new Panic! and pictures that should be on Cute&Cuter. Just wow, I really need to work on that. I have not listened to the new song yet, but  I did download it, so later. I'm hearing good things though and that makes me feel better. I'm always so nervous for Panic! and other bands I'm attached to and I just want them to do well, and that feeling only increases the more put upon I feel they are. IDK, I have a thing for the underdog.

Some of you may remember some previous posts on 100 Years of Solitude and I can announce today that I finished the book and turned it in. It didn't take me that much time to actually finish, I just put the book down for twelve days and then had to finish up the second half because it was due today and I didn't want to quit.

The final verdict: Wow. I am so glad I stuck it out. When I hit the final page and came across the ending paragraph, I looked up and had a film of tears in my eyes. It wasn't a reaction to sadness or tragedy (though, man, there is an event towards the end that made me grimace), but I have this habit of being really affected by gorgeous prose and wondrous writing. Whenever I come across a book and I'm just hit with how good it is and how I feel like I've really glimpsed something special and maybe for a moment, I hit a piece of elevation while reading it.

This book is epic in its scale and not many writers can/have done this half as well. There are still parts/actions that skeeved me out but those parts were essential to the book as a whole and I can't be upset at that. When I first started the book, I wasn't in the right mindset to really enjoy it and when I adjusted what I expected to get from it, I had a much better reading experience.

I could probably count on two hands, with fingers to spare, the number of books that have left me in this state after finishing it. The last one was I Know This Much is True by Wally Lamb, a book which I don't think is as good as 100 Years, but still amazing.

Would I rec it? If you are into the written word and you enjoy epic tales and you don't hate a dash of surrealism, then I would suggest you read this book. Even with as much praise as I'm heaping on this book, I still didn't come out liking any of the major characters and the story meanders--but it's supposed to and the effect is well done.  I would rec it to some people.

There is a reson this book is considered one of the greatest, and rightfully so.
